Introduction to Red Deer, Canada

Red Deer is one of the Canadian province of Alberta's biggest cities. Red Deer, an agricultural and oil hub, is sited in rolling landscapes in the middle of the province. It is in the southwest of the country midway between Calgary and Edmonton. There is a good selection of Red Deer hotels on the south side of Red Deer River. Shops and shopping centres, including Bower Place Mall, myriad restaurants and fast food outlets are all within walking range of the central accommodations. Historic Fort Normandeau is a museum five minutes from the centre. The museum has eclectic artefacts and rebuilt heritage displays. There are several sports facilities dotted around Red Deer. Waskasoo Park runs through the city, passing some of the establishments, and offers hiking trails and, in winter, cross-country skiing. The Canyon Ski Area, east of Red Deer, offers ski runs serviced by lifts, and floodlights for evening skiing. Also in winter Bower Ponds is busy with ice skaters.
