Introduction to Quebec - Rimouski
Rimouski, Quebec is rich in maritime culture and heritage. The city is situated on the upper reaches of the St Lawrence River, about 260kms to the northeast of Quebec City. Most of the sites located in and around the city are based around the sea and maritime influences. Rimouski hotels along the riverfront are particularly popular, particularly those along Highway 132. The city is home to many fascinating cultural events each year, including an international jazz festival and a regional film festival called Carrousel International de Film de Rimouski. The main attraction in the city is the Pointe-au-Pere historical site. It is situated about two kilometres from the downtown area. The Empress of Ireland Pavilion exhibits artefacts from the wreckage of the namesake ocean liner which sunk in the area in 1914, while the Pointe-au-Pere Lighthouse is an interesting National Historic Site. Lepage Park is a marvellous green zone in downtown Rimouski. Here, visitors can frolic in the beautifully landscaped gardens or relax with a book under a shady tree. For a look at the historical side of the city, visit Lamontagne's House, a half-timber home built more than 250 years ago. Visit our Quebec Travel Guide
