The glitzy nighttime skyline of Moncton is reminiscent of Las Vegas which is strange considering the city’s main history is as a land transportation hub, a status that continues to this day. Waterparks for young families and shimmering lakes and waterways are just the beginning of the many tourist attractions that keep Moncton hotels solidly booked throughout most of the year. Hotels in Moncton have seen worse days such as when the shipping indistry collapsed in the 1860s or when the industrial rail factories closed in the 1980s but present day tourism and tertiary industry have kept the city on an even keel. Some Moncton hotels take up the overspill when nearby towns like Dieppe and Riverview are overbooked, which is often since the tourist infrastructure in those smaller places is not very large. The Magnetic Hill is the town’s most well-known attraction since the spread of the land here gives visitors the illusion of travelling uphill when they are actually travelling downhill.
