Lovely iron bridges and a quaint fishing village atmosphere mark the city of Matane which is on the Gaspe Peninsula on the Matane River in Quebec, Canada. The entire town is a fishing centre and Matane is especially renowned for its shrimps. Salmon fishing is also popular but the annual shrimp festival had to be cancelled due to poor participation several years ago. This loss to town tourism hasn’t resulted in any loss of rooms or infratstucture regarding Matane hotels which all remain open. There are some truly lovely family run bed and breakfast operations here and no high rise, five star accommodations. Fresh produce from the river is served up in hotels in Matane nightly and often, hoteliers will take willing guests out on fishing trips of a nighttime. Matane hotels happily offer rooms to guests who have missed connections to the ferry service across the river to Godbout.
