Introduction to Matane - City Centre
The Canadian city of Matane is situated on the Gaspe Peninsula's rugged coastline, in a scenic location between the Atlantic Ocean and the St Lawrence River. Travellers can get here by taking a ferry across the St Lawrence River from ports such as Godbout and Baie-Comeau. The ferry terminal is around a mile to the west of the city centre, where most of the shops and restaurants sit on Avenue du Phare. There is a tourist information office at the junction of Avenue du Phare and Boulevard Dion. A short walk down this street, away from the river, visitors will also find a bowling alley. The area is well-known for its shrimp, but most tourists prefer salmon fishing on the Matane River. Matane City Centre hotels are busiest during the July and August peak-season. At this time, towns and villages across the Gaspe Peninsula are packed with holidaymakers from Quebec, so international visitors might want to book hotels well in advance. During the winter, guests also have the chance to head farther inland and go skiing in the Chic-Chocs Mountains.other spellings: matanehotels center, mantane city otel, mantane hotell center, mantan hote citi
