Introduction to Kitchener - City Centre

Kitchener is a Canadian city in Southern Ontario, and a key part of the Kitchener-Waterloo (K-W) metropolitan area. The best time to visit the city is in October, when the German-themed Oktoberfest takes place. This area is proud of its German heritage and, as such, visitors should book Kitchener City Centre hotels well in advance of this nine-day festival; the lively event is considered to be the biggest Oktoberfest outside Munich. The city centre is divided into four neighbourhoods, of which the Downtown Core is the most interesting. Guests can visit Victoria Park, one of the most beautiful in the region and sometimes compared to New York's Central Park. In addition, tourists can admire the post-modern City Hall, on King Street West. It is well-worth taking lunch in its top-floor cafeteria in order to enjoy views of the city. Travellers can get here by flying to Waterloo Region International Airport, with flights from Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa. In reality, however, most international visitors fly here via Toronto-Pearson, around 52 miles from the city centre.
