Kirkland Lake was originally a gold rush town that celebrates a more modern heritage today as a capital of many famous ice hockey players and ice hockey commentators. In summer, fishermen and anglers arrive in the town in great numbers and hunters and campers also arrive here for some outdoor adventures. In winter, snow trails are well maintained and the Hockey Heritage Museum is most popular during the colder months. Kirkland Lake hotels are spread out around the town and securing a room even as a walk up customer is never particularly difficult. Hotels in Kirkland Lake that face the campgrounds and campsites are often good value and handy when there are no outdoor spaces left vacant or if weather turns inclement. Kirkland Lake hotels are sure to tell visitors anecdotes about the many Canadian celebrities that are local to the area or who went to school or attended the hockey college here.
