Introduction to Jasper, Canada
Jasper is a tourist service town in the Athabasca River Valley. The valley is located in Jasper National Park, in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It is in the country's southwestern province of Alberta. The boundary started life as a fur trading outpost and is now a premium destination for tourists drawn by its majestic scenery and outdoor activities. There are a plethora of Jasper hotels that offer services to visitors. There is a central grouping of the properties in the environs of Connaught Drive, which runs parallel to the River Athabasca. On the same road there is a selection of restaurants serving wholesome fare. The properties offer a good starting point for day excursions into the national park. Jasper Tramway, south of town, provides a route up the 2,500m Whistler's Mountain. The mountains, such as Pyramid Mountain, that ring the vicinity offer trekking in summer and skiing in winter.
