Introduction to Fredericton - City Centre
Fredericton is the capital city of Canada's New Brunswick province, nowadays home to more than 50,000 residents. The city is split into 'Northside' and 'Southside' areas, the latter of which is considered to be the city centre. Here, visitors will find many of the biggest business headquarters, as well as cultural venues and historical buildings. The fascinating Garrison District is a must-see for anyone interested in Canadian colonial history. Visitors can watch the 'Changing of the Guard', visit the Guard House and even explore the Soldiers Barracks. It might be best to join a guided tour of the district to make the most out of the experience, and then explore the York-Sunbury Historical Museum to learn more. A short walk to the edge of the city centre allows guests to enjoy the interior of Old Government House, courtesy of its free guided tours. The building was first constructed in 1828, but has now been restored to its former glory, showing off original antiques and other exhibits. Travellers can reach Fredericton City Centre hotels by flying to Fredericton Airport, located in nearby Lincoln and just over nine miles to the southeast of the city.
