Introduction to Field, Canada
Field is located in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, just west of the Alberta regional boundary and amid a string of national parks. The settlement sits in the Kicking Horse River valley and contains the visitor centre of Yoho National Park. After gaining admittance into the park, there are many opportunities for hiking and exploration close by. Emerald Lake, the largest in the park, can be accessed by way of Burgess Pass, which also provides views of the Wapta Icefield. Some of the highest waterfalls in Canada are here; Twin Falls is the ninth highest and Takakkaw Falls is second only to Della Falls. Among the most impressive waterfalls in the park is the mighty Wapta Falls, which produce the largest volume of water out of all of Yoho's falls. Scrambling is possible from Mount Burgess, Mount Field or Mount Stephen, while Mount Ogden features an exhibit on the amazing spiral railway tunnels in the area. Field is home to the Burgess Shale Formation, one of the best fossil fields in the world. To get to Field hotels, travellers must pass Lake Louise, a popular ski resort.
