Introduction to Calgary - South Calgary
Largely playing second fiddle to the very centre of the city, South Calgary was mostly undeveloped until the start of the 1950s and is currently in the middle of a redevelopment plan with aims to further reinvigorate what is a picturesque neighbourhood. This pleasant, green area is mostly residential, with a low population density and good access to South Calgary Airport, the main gateway to the city. The main thoroughfare, Macleod Trail Street, is straddled by a wealth of quality and reasonably priced South Calgary hotels, close to Shaw Nee Slopes Golf Course and the adjacent Fish Creek Provincial Park. There is also another golf course to the west of this scenic area, Maple Ridge Course, meaning golf enthusiasts are well-catered for in South Calgary. And with a host of bars and restaurants in the vicinity too, the 19th hole is never far away.Visit our Calgary Travel Guide
