Introduction to Alma, Canada
In the Canadian province of Quebec, Alma is a union of four towns on the southeast coast of Lac Saint-Jean, where it flows into the Saguenay River. The north side of the lake is made up of Pointe-Taillon National Park, and there are many opportunities for camping, fishing and hunting as well as a handful of beautiful beaches. During the winter, the mountainous area is popular for skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing, while a favourite local pastime is ice-fishing on the Saguenay River. When staying in Alma hotels, be sure to try the regional speciality, a meat pie known as tourtiere, and in August, every local market is brimming with freshly picked blueberries and other berry treats. Sauvage Zoo focuses on conservation and has a magnificent collection of animals from around the world. L'Odyssee des Batisseurs is a water-themed amusement park in town, and the Scullion garden is a lovely place to spend a leisurely afternoon.
