Introduction to Veliko Turnovo - Arbanassi
Few communities in Bulgaria are better preserved than the small village of Arbanassi, whose name is frequently spelled Arbanasi. This historic village is located just four kilometres northeast of Bulgaria's medieval capital, Veliko Tarnovo, and Tsarevets and Trapezitsa hills overlook its high plateau. Christians first founded this village during the 15th century, but it fell under Ottoman Empire control just 100 years later. Ottoman architecture remains evident in many Arbanassi hotels and historic buildings. However, no historic building here may receive more visitors than the Church of the Nativity of Christ, whose interior frescoes are far more elaborate than its simple exterior. Half a dozen more historic churches stand throughout the village, which also contains two old monasteries, St Nicholas and the Dormition of the Mother of God. Both monasteries date between the 17th and 18th centuries. The village is a frequent stop on many Danube River cruises because it can easily be explored in a few hours.other spellings: arbanassihotels, arbanasi otel, hotell abanasi, arbanassy hote, arbanessi hotes
