Introduction to Pamporovo - Chepelare
Featuring among the longest ski pistes in southeastern Europe, Chepelare is a fast-developing winter sports destination in southern Bulgaria. Its prominence is highlighted by the fact it is still the only town in the Balkans with a ski and snowboard factory. Visitors here usually come for the guaranteed snow in winter, the excellent runs and the good value for money the resort offers compared to more celebrated winter sports destinations in central Europe. In summer, there is also as much to do here, if not more, what with the excellent hiking and horseback riding trails in the area. The Wonderful Bridges, a natural rock formation that is popular with sightseers, is the main draw. It is situated about 1,500 metres above sea level. Close to these formations are a series of caves although many of these caverns are yet to be opened to tourism. Chepelare hotels mostly cater to the skiing crowd and are therefore lodges with associated facilities, although there are plenty of summer accommodation options, too.
