Nessebar - enjoy the beaches and the world culture listed historic town
People have been living in the Nessebar region of Bulgaria for nearly 2,500 years, and many of the cultures have left their mark on the buildings in the town, including the Greeks and Romans. So important to the history of the region, it was declared a UNESCO site in 1983. The beaches in the region are some of the finest on the Black Sea and it is a popular holiday destination for both Bulgarians and tourists.
Sofia - go ski or hike the Vitosha Mountain
Bulgaria has fantastic scenery and a great way to enjoy it is hiking through the Vitosha Mountains outside Sofia. To truly enjoy the views there are a number of chalets in the region that allow you to sleep overnight and extend your stay. Lucky hikers may get a glimpse of wild bears or wolves. During the winter the area also offers great skiing with lifts taking you up to the higher slopes.
Sofia - visit the world heritage site of Boyana Church
The church at Boyana , just outside Sofia, was built over a period of 700 years with the earliest part dating back to the 10th and 11th century. Additions to the original building were made in the 13th and 19th centuries creating the building as it is today and it was named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It hosts some of the finest examples of medieval frescos in Europe making it a great place to visit.
Varna - take a drive to view the rock formations of Pobitite Kamuni
No one is exactly sure how the impressive rock formations at Pobitite Kamuni just outside Varna were formed, but they are thought to be over 50 million years. Some of the columns are 7 metres tall and over 2 metres wide, and they are completely hollow. Their unique structures have been used many times as backdrops to films, and they are a popular tourist site.
