Introduction to Sao Paulo - City Centre
The massive city of Sao Paulo, the largest conurbation in Brazil, gives an intense cultural experience although it's often overlooked as a tourist destination in favour of Rio de Janeiro. The city centre has expanded beyond the original Centro Historico to include the business district as well as ethnic areas such as the Italian Bixiga and the Japanese Liberdade districts. Home to many delightful heritage sites, giant skyscrapers, a vast choice of Sao Paulo City Centre hotels, shopping malls and markets, riotous nightlife and hundreds of the city's famous restaurants, the city offers a unique experience for visitors. The cultural heart of Brazil, Sao Paulo's central district is home to first-rate museums like the Museum of Art, music and theatrical venues showing conventional and experimental events, and a dizzying array of cultural diversity, not to mention impressive structures like the cathedral. Crowded, noisy and occasionally polluted, the city centre can't be described as beautiful, nor is the metropolis fringed with spectacular beaches, but for fast-paced excitement in all sectors, it's as good as it gets and well worth visiting.Visit our Sao Paulo Travel Guide
