Introduction to Santo Amaro, Brazil
Santo Amaro da Imperatriz is a small town in southern Brazil's Santa Catarina State. It is located about 15 km inland from the larger town of Polhoca and the Atlantic coast. The river that runs through the city centre is the embarkation point for white water rafting excursions. There are a number of hotels in Santo Amaro providing service to the growing numbers of visitors attracted to the region. Most of the lodgings are close to the riverside with additional resort style complexes further upstream. It is ringed by pristine forest and mountains. Santo Amaro Church is one of several interesting structures in the region. The properties make a good base for exploring the cultural and beach hub of Florianopolis, 25kms away. Campeche Beach, one of many on Florianopolis' coast, offers good surfing and wonderful vistas. The old city quarter is full of old colonial structures, museums and al fresco cafes.
