Introduction to Salvador, Brazil
Salvador is a charming cultural city on Brazil's east coast. It is on a peninsula sandwiched between Todos os Santos Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It boasts around 40 km of city beaches, which are on both sides of the peninsula. There is a good choice of hotels in Salvador that cater to the needs of the numerous annual visitors. Most of the lodgings are on the shoreline. The greatest concentration of properties is on the peninsula's Atlantic side, and on the internationally renowned Porto da Barra Beach, on its southern tip. Itaparica Island, opposite Porto da Barra Beach, can be accessed by ferry from the nearby Model Market (Mercado Modelo), on the edge of historic quarter. The quarter contains marvellous old colonial architecture, churches such as the twin-spire Sao Francisco Church, al fresco cafes and Campo Grande Square. Abelardo Rodrigues Museum is nearby and contains religious art housed in a wonderful edifice.Visit our Salvador Travel Guide
