Introduction to Rio de Janeiro - Airport
Rio de Janiero Airport, commonly known as Galeao International Airport, is the main airport serving Rio de Janiero and the surrounding region. The largest of Brazil's airports, Galeao, handles more than 12 million passengers annually. Most of the world's major airlines operate regular service to Rio from every major Latin American capital, as well as most major international cities. The hub is located 20kms north of downtown Rio on Governador Island and is accessible by taxi, a bus serviced by Real Auto Onibus, and rental car. Both of its terminals contain a full range of passenger amenities, including eateries, shops and duty-free outlets. There are Rio de Janiero Airport hotels on site and nearby. Several banks, bureau de change service desks and a Post Office can be found in the airport, along with a 24-hour hospital and pharmacy in Terminal 1. The tourist information desk in the arrivals area provides excellent assistance for visitors touching down in Rio.Visit our Rio de Janeiro Travel Guide
