Introduction to Recife, Brazil
Recife is a large city and major port in eastern Brazil. It is sited at the point where the Beberibe and the Capibaribe rivers flow into the Atlantic Ocean. There are a number of coral reefs just offshore which gave the city its name; reef is translated as Recife in Portuguese. There is a good choice of Recife hotels and other accommodation dotted around the town. A central grouping of establishments is in the environs of the old city quarter (Recife Antigo) and the port. The quarter's signature landmark, Malakoff Tower, eateries and nightlife venues are all within walking distance. An additional cluster of properties is on the seafront, near the beaches at Rio Doce and Casa Caiada. It boasts many museums and cultural draws. The Museu do Estado de Pernambuco houses an extensive collection of art.
