Introduction to Manaus, Brazil
Manaus is a city located at the confluence of the Solimoes and Negro rivers in northern Brazil. These rivers flow into the mighty River Amazon. It has a number of historical and cultural draws and is a hub for river cruises. Hotels in Manaus are located around the central port area. The properties offer a good layover point for travellers on the riverboats. Boats sailing from Belem, on the Amazon's Atlantic coast estuary, take five days to reach the region. Other destinations accessible by boat are Porto Velho, close to the Bolivian border, and Tabatinga on the Colombia border. City attractions including the Amazonas Opera House, The Natural Science Museum and good choices of eateries are a short walk from the establishments. It is a start point for treks into the Amazon rainforest. Ponta Negra Beach is a sport and entertainment centre on the riverside just outside the city centre.
