Introduction to Jericoacoara - City Centre
Jericoacoara is a fishing village in the province of Ceara, northern Brazil. It is home to one of Brazil's most beautiful beaches, meaning that many travellers stay here for much longer than they had originally intended. Most holidaymakers begin their journey here from Fortaleza, around 186 miles to the east. There are regular buses from Fortaleza to Jeri, where travellers can transfer to private 4x4 trucks. Given the rural nature of the village, most people get around on foot. There are only four main streets, all of which lead to the beach. However, these four streets still host a decent range of restaurants, serving a mixture of local fare and traditional seafood dishes. The most recognisable landmark in the village is the Arched Rock (Pedra Furada), which is best-visited at sunset. It is possible to reach the rock independently, but those returning after dark might want to go with a local guide instead. During the day, guests staying at Jericoacoara City Centre hotels have the chance to take part in a number of beach activities; these include kite surfing, horseback riding and windsurfing, among many others.
