Huatajata hotels overlook Lake Titicaca as the city of Huatajata is located on the lake's northeast coast. It is about an hour ride by car or bus from the Bolivian capital of La Paz and accommodations are often spin off establishments from larger and older outfits in the capital. The precinct has a strong history as a religious missionary town and in the early 1900s a large farm was established where the modern day town now exists. The properties tend to be mid to low range outfits and there are no real luxury or five star hotels. Since La Paz is relatively close to the vicinity most visitors who are looking for the comforts and conveniences of a larger city will stay on at the capital. Huatajata is a smaller town with an interesting history that values tradition and seems to be perfectly happy to sit in the shadow of the busy capital area.
