Travellers to Bruges will therefore be required to rely on walking, buses and waterway transport in the very centre of the city, inside the city walls, with the usual modes of getting around, including by taxi, available outside.
On foot: cheap, reliable and extremely good for the environment, walking remains the favourite mode of getting around Bruges’s Medieval centre and the perfect way to take in the many sites at a suitable pace.
Boat: less a form of transport and more a tourist activity in its own right, a boat tour nonetheless can take visitors to areas of the city that cannot easily be reached by foot.
Taxi: outside of the pedestrian areas within the city walls, taxis are available and are particularly convenient for reaching destinations such as the train station and further out, the Bruges-Oostende Airport.
Horse and cart: for a traditional look at Bruges old city, groups can enjoy the gentle pace of one of the many horses and carts that are permitted to travel within the city walls.
