Introduction to Ypres, Belgium
Ypres is considered to be one of the friendliest towns in the Flanders Fields region of Belgium. Its WWI battlefields have given the town huge historical significance, meaning that many visitors come especially to see the town's war cemeteries and memorials. However, just as many come to explore the town's wonderful architecture, such as the Cloth Hall, home to the Flanders Field Museum. Located in the middle of the centre, the museum offers a fascinating insight into local life during WWI. Many of the war memorials are spread out beyond the town's outskirts. Menin Gate is one of the most prominent memorials in the centre of town, just 500 metres east of the Cloth Hall. Menin Gate's daily ceremony, which pays respects to the town's war dead, is moving. This ceremony takes place at 20:00 each evening.
