Many British people will know Ostend as a ferry port providing a gateway from England to Belgium. This is also a popular seaside resort with no less than nine kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches. According to the local tourist office there are 54 hotels in Ostend all offering good levels of comfort and cleanliness. The area closest to the yacht-basin has the best of the Ostend hotels. For entertainment in Ostend the nightlife is excellent. There is a casino, many pubs and clubs and a choice of cinema complexes. Being a coastal town many restaurants, particularly those around the Albert I promenade and Visserskaai, provide exquisite seafood dishes. There is also a host of things to amuse people of all ages including the Three Master Mercator, the North Sea Aquarium, the Earth Explorer theme park, the Japanese Gardens and the Provincial Museum of Modern Art.
