Introduction to Ostend, Belgium
No other Belgian beachfront city is as large as Ostend, just a four-hour car ferry ride away from the British port of Ramsgate. Not only are most Ostend hotels just minutes from its five North Sea beaches, but many accommodations are housed in beautiful historic buildings which have greeted guests for decades. This may be a popular daytrip destination for many tourists from neighbouring European nations, but longer stays are recommended to anyone wishing to explore the entire city. Albert I is an elevated promenade spanning the entire five kilometre coastline, which is also home to Belgium's biggest casino, the Kursaal Oostende. The best known local statue, Dikke Mathille, stands in the middle of the British style Leopold Park, where the Flower Clock's summer dates are faithfully reset from flowers each day. The former merchant marine training vessel, Driemaster Mercator, has now become a floating maritime museum. The North Sea Aquarium stands near the old fishing port. Even the local art museum is situated on the sea.other spellings: oostend otel, hote ostende, osten hotell, oztend hotles, ostendhotels
