Introduction to Ostend - City Centre
Standing as the largest city on the coast of Belgium, the city of Ostend is a tourist favourite destination. Ostend city centre is home to many thousands of people, and is where visitors will find a large number of Ostend hotels. The beach is only a kilometre or two from the centre, while Ostend Casino and Fort Napoleon are among the most visited landmarks in this district. Close to the city centre lays the beachfront esplanade and pier, which contain a fantastic range of restaurants and shops. The James Esnor Museum is popular among tourists, and the well-kept Atlantic Wall from WWII is a major crowd puller. The beach provides facilities for beach visits and is still the most popular attraction in the city today; however, cool water temperatures in the winter months mean that swimming is only really available from June to August, with most visitors spending their visit here in one of the restaurants that backs the sand.
