Introduction to Namur - City Centre
Namur is a city in Belgium's southern French-speaking region of Wallonia. It is the capital of the region and has a population of just below 110,000 people. The Meuse River runs through the south of the city centre, and boat trips along the river provide scenic views. Namur is a popular tourist destination with a number of interesting buildings to see in its centre. The most prominent sight in the city is the citadel, which is now open to the public after being demilitarised. During Easter, it hosts a popular beer festival. St Aubin's Cathedral in the city centre is the only cathedral in the country which was constructed in the late Baroque style, and the interior features stunning pieces of art. Right in the heart of the city is Namur Provincial Museum of Ancient Arts, which presents Renaissance and Medieval collections including sculptures, paintings and embroideries. The city centre is surrounded by the river on the south side and the N90 Route on the north side. Namur City Centre hotels are sprinkled throughout the area and often within walking distance of the city's main attractions.
