Introduction to Liege, Belgium
Liege, like many Belgian cities, is not a cheap destination but it does host some fabulous festivals, superb shopping and fine food to entice visitors. Liege hotels vary in quality and price with the more expensive being nearer the historic centre. There are, however, many mid-range hotels in Liege conveniently located for discovering the delights of the city. Food and drink is ever popular in Belgium and pralines, cheeses and beers are plentiful. Sweet dessert lovers will surely be tempted by freshly cooked Liege waffles. Shopping is a popular pastime here and the best selection of stores is to be found at Place Saint Lambert and Place Cathdrale. The Sunday market, one of Europe’s longest in length, in Liege is located along the Meuse River near the university. The Christmas Village attracts over one million visitors a year and some of the hotels in Liege need to be booked well in advance.
