Introduction to Leuven, Belgium
A section of the Belgian city of Leuven is set in a hilly location overlooking the River Dijle. From here several of the Leuven hotels provide marvellous views of the city. Visitors to the city centre can be forgiven for thinking that this is a well preserved town full of 17th and 18th century buildings. It was actually painstakingly rebuilt after being almost completely destroyed during WWI. As far as buildings go the star attraction of Leuven has to be the medieval town hall. Good quality hotels in Leuven are split between the town and the beautiful local countryside and are relatively inexpensive compared with other cities. Leuven’s greatest export is Belgian beer and the city is home to Interbrew, the brewer of the world famous Stella Artois lager. There are many mid-range hotels in Leuven offering enticing rates for visitors wanting to soak up the history and culture of the city.
