Introduction to Genk, Belgium
The Belgian city of Genk is located in the Flanders region, between Antwerp and Liege. It's most well-known for its manufacturing industry, but there are several places of interest to occupy visiting tourists. In addition, the SEA Tourist Commission awarded Genk the title of 'Europe's Friendliest City'. The city's biggest attraction is its open-air museum, Bokrijk. Bokrijk consists of a number of relocated buildings which date back as far as the 17th century. Summer visitors even have the chance to see actors in costume performing re-enactments from this period in Belgium's history. Bokrijk is situated around four miles west of the city centre. The city is also well-known for its green areas, such as De Maten. This nature reserve is located around 2.5 miles east of the city centre. The nature reserve hosts the Europlanetarium and observatory, appealing to those interested in space and astronomy. Travellers can get to Genk hotels by flying to the capital, Brussels, and then taking a train directly from the lower level of the airport.
