Introduction to Brussels - Saint Gilles
Famous for its Art Nouveau houses by the likes of Hankar and Horta, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites, Saint Gilles is a diverse, central district of Brussels. The house that Horta imagined for his own use is now the Hota Museum, featuring everyday items he designed around 100 years ago. The Town Hall is another architectural wonder here, with its ornate facade that also dates back to the early 20th century. The Saint Gilles Prison is worth a visit for its older Gothic Revival design which is well preserved. Visitors that have had their fill of the district's intriguing old buildings may head to Van Vorst Park, a good place for a stroll. Saint Gilles' is well placed for accessing Brussels Midi Station, which lies on its northwestern edge.
