Introduction to Brugge - Canal Bank
The UNESCO-designated city of Brugge boasts one of the finest collections of medieval architecture in Europe. This historic trading port city is located 15kms inland from Belgium's North Sea coast, to which it offers canal access. Canals criss-cross the city centre and are lined with majestic buildings, some of which are Canal Bank hotels. Staying in this district gives guests a real sense of living in the past as major sites, including Sint Salvator Cathedral and the Holy Blood Basilica, are all around. The Gothic basilica is said to house a container with Jesus's blood in it. The Grote Markt, at the heart of the city, is a big square lined with quintessential Flemish structures. Nearby are the Choco-Story Museum and the Groeningemusem. The latter houses six centuries' worth of paintings by Belgian and Flemish masters. The Last Judgment by Hieronymus Bosch is one of the renowned exhibits. Those with a liking for Belgium's famed chocolate will find the Choco-Story Museum an entertaining site. Horse-drawn carriages depart on city tours from the Grote Markt, while canal boat trips give a different aspect of Brugge. Visit our Brugge Travel Guide
