Introduction to Antwerp - Berchem
Berchem is a district in the south of the Belgian city of Antwerp, located in the country's northern Flemish region. It is situated on the Great Stone Road which has connected Antwerp to Brussels for several centuries. Berchem itself is divided into three quarters, Nieuw Kwartier, Oud Berchem and Groenenhoek. Antwerp's central motorway, the 'Ring', follows the trail of the city's former defense walls and runs through the centre of the district, separating the suburban areas of Nieuw Kwartier and Groenenhoek from the urban inner city area of Oud-Berchem. The district's main commercial and shopping area is Driekoningenstraat - Statiestraat, which boasts an interesting mix of local, Belgian and international stores. The high street was refurbished recently, providing more space to pedestrians. The Zurenborg area is home to many Art Nouveau style townhouses and has become a major attraction for visitors interested in architecture. There are a few Berchem hotels in the centre of the district.other spellings: berchemhotels, berchem otel, hotellin berchem, bercham hote, burchem hote
