Introduction to Christ Church - Saint Mathias
Saint Mathias is located on the Caribbean island of Barbados, on the southern coast in the most southerly parish of Christ Church. The south coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island, although Saint Mathias is known for being a peaceful area and is generally not visited as much as the busier resorts of this stretch of coast. However, there are a few mid-range Saint Mathias hotels. The beach town lies less than five kilometres southeast of the capital, Bridgetown, which can be reached on the main Highway 7, which runs along the south coast of the island. A benefit of Saint Mathias is its proximity to many of the island's hotspots. With the bustling capital just a few kilometres' drive away on one side and some of Barbados's most beautiful beaches within walking distance, it is certainly in a great location. Another nearby attraction is the Garrison Savannah, one of the oldest horseracing tracks in the Americas. It provides a great day out and the chance to mingle with the locals, who are extremely passionate about the sport.
