Introduction to Dhaka - Airport
Dhaka Airport, officially named Shahjahal International Airport, is Bangladesh's largest air hub, located in the country's capital Dhaka. Six million passengers a year, four million of whom are international arrivals, are processed annually at the facility's location, 11kms from the city centre. Two terminals serve international arrivals, with one concourse attached for domestic passengers. Flights run from many of the world's major capitals, including Beijing, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, Dubai, Delhi and Hong Kong. Onward transportation is by taxi, unmarked micro-buses or local bus, with taxi touts, so-called porters and tourist agents a major problem for arriving passengers. A short distance from the Arrivals exit are stands with auto-rickshaws, a much safer option, and taxis also congregate on the roundabout just outside the airport complex. Another option is to book into one of the Dhaka Airport hotels which provide a shuttle bus and make sure you are met on arrival.
