Manama Travel Guide
National Day in December, which marks Bahrain’s independence from British rule, is the main display of nationalist pride that usually sees plenty of fun and fireworks.
January Festivals

New Year’s Day: Bahrainis may not use this day to sleep off hangovers as is too often the case in many parts of the world on January 1, but this is still a day of quiet celebration and a day off work.
No Fixed Date

Islamic New Year: marking the first day of the Muslim calendar, the Islamic New Year is a national holiday and a moment of reflection for the local population when gifts and cards are often exchanged between relatives and friends.
Ramadan: one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan sees the population fast and guard against temptation for one month, which means things become quieter. Things in Manama generally still work as normal but activity is lessened during this time.
Eid Al Adha: not as significant as the first post-Ramadan Eid festival, this one comes around 70 days after the end of the month of fasting, which is based on the lunar calendar and changes every year. Prayers at the local mosque and a special family meal are usually the order of the day here.
