Introduction to Zallaq, Bahrain
Located on the west coast of Bahrain, Zallaq is an attractive town with a small harbor that remains peaceful but well-connected to nearby attractions. The town makes an ideal base for those visiting the country for the Formula One Grand Prix here, which has become a fixture of the motorsport calendar since the impressive circuit was developed ahead of its inaugural race in 2004. Zallaq lies just a few miles from the circuit, making it a much more suitable base for the event than Manama, in the northeast of the country. Also nearby are the University of Bahrain and Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary, just south of the racing circuit. For tourists, the key draw here is the beach, which is pleasant and still fairly under developed along the main Jazair Beach Avenue. Zallaq hotels are mostly upmarket resorts, as would be expected in up-and-coming Bahrain, with plenty to do on site.
