In addition, there is always some sort of cultural event happening at one time or another in Vienna and day spas and short courses provide other alternatives.
Eating and drinking: all types of food are available in Vienna from hearty Austrian fare to quality international cuisines from around the world and easy fast food.
Shopping: the shopping follows Vienna’s trait as an expensive city although shopping options are aplenty. Elegant shops abound and you will find many quality products including ceramics, porcelain, and leather goods, while antiques shops and open-air markets are also very popular.
The main shopping streets are located in the city centre in the 1st District and include: Karntnerstrasse, Kohlmarkt, and the Graben. The Naschmarkt is also worth a look; a bustling fruit and vegetable market.
The arts are mainly celebrated at the Wiener Festwochen (Vienna Festival Weeks) in May and June and this is one of the best times to be in the city, while the country’s main film festival, the Viennale, happens at the end of October. Christmas and New Year are celebrated with vigour.
Spas: most spas can be found in Vienna’s more upmarket hotel establishments but, be warned, prices, as with most other activities in Vienna, are very expensive. Hourly, half-day, or daily programmes are available that include being pampered with spa baths, massage, and aromatherapy.
Special packages are available for people wanting to learn to ski and/or snowboard that include all transfers, ski and snowboard equipment, clothing, and accommodation.
