Introduction to Vienna - Neubau & Mariahilf
The Vienna district of Neubau & Mariahilf has a reputation for being artsy, especially in the eastern part. The Academy of Fine Arts, surrounded by many smaller art galleries that exhibit works by local artists, is located here. This part of the city was once frequented by Mozart, who debuted the Magic Flute in the Theater an der Wein, a building which has now been turned into an opera house. The Baroque Mariahilfer Church has a monument to celebrate the life of Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, who lived in the area. One of Vienna's finest museums, the Leopold Museum, is also in Neubau & Mariahilf, which is dedicated to the Modernist movement in Austria. This part of the city has been gentrified in recent years and is now a trendy area to live and visit. Fashionable Neubau & Mariahilf hotels are found throughout the district.Visit our Vienna Travel Guide
