Introduction to Vienna - Hietzing & Penzing
Set in the western side of the Austrian capital, the district of Hietzing & Penzing draws tourists primarily because of Schonnbrun Imperial Palace and Zoo. Built to rival Versailles, this 18th century palace is as extensive as it is exquisite. There are regular tours of the palace, while the gardens are free for visitors to roam. The zoo is one of the oldest in the world, set in the gardens of the palace and filled with exotic creatures from all over the world. Visitors also come to this area to see one of Austria's renowned architect's designs. Otto Wagner, a late 19th century Art Nouveau architect, designed two villas here which tourists are welcome to visit. Vienna's Hietzing & Penzing is a particularly green area, and tourists can enjoy the parks here all year round.
