Introduction to Vienna - Hernals
The district of Hernals is a pleasant place situated four kilometres from Vienna and its central historic quarter. The station on Hernals's Dornbacher Street has direct rail links to the centre, making Hernals hotels the ideal base for exploring the city's draws as well as the nearby Wienerwald forest. In the neighbourhood itself, churches such as Marienpfarre and Kalvarienbergkirche, museums and the Jorgerbad Spa are the main tourism sites. The latter is a heritage facility with pools and saunas. The Hernals District Museum has an interesting collection of exhibits relating to local history. The Kalvarienbergkirche is a mostly modern Baroque edifice with a unique 17th century Turkish Madonna. Schloss Neuwaldegg is a private castle in the district that stages numerous events and is an attractive sight. The adjacent Potzleinsdorfer Castle Park is noted for its floral displays and grassy meadows. Geymuller Schlossel is a villa in the park that currently serves as a timepiece museum and art gallery.
