Introduction to Velden am Worthersee - City Centre
Few holiday resorts in Austria attract as many visitors as Velden am Worthersee, situated in southern Austria on Lake Worthersee's western bay. Many of the Velden am Worthersee City Centre hotels are set in stately buildings or more modest historic villas which have been converted into accommodations directly facing the lake and with their own private diving and sunbathing platforms. Summer may be this resort's busiest season, but the waters of Lake Worthersee are said to be the warmest in Austria, and are equally comfortable to swim in during spring and autumn. A beautiful fountain, called Kaiserbrunnen, was built close to the current Velden rail station to commemorate Emperor Franz Josef I 60th year on the throne. Although Casino Velden first opened in 1922, it moved to its current building in 1989.
