Introduction to Scheffau, Austria

Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser is an alpine village in the east of Austria. The village currently has around 1,300 residents. Part of the Solllandl region, it is just 20 minutes' drive northwest of Kitzbuhel, home of the most important skiing race in the world as well as a popular hangout for VIPs and famous stars. However, Scheffau is much more low-key, with most of its tourist activity taking place during the summer months. There is a popular swimming area in the village which is open to the public. In addition, Scheffau hotels offer free shuttle buses to nearby lakes and hiking areas. Those who would like to visit neighbouring villages can make use of the Kaiserjet bus, which is also free. However, on summer days, bicycle is one of the best ways to explore the area, with rentals available at much of the village's accommodation. Most accommodation is centrally-located, with easy access to grocery stores and bus stops. There is also a Baroque-style church in the village centre that might also be worth a look.
