Nussdorf am Attersee is a lakeside village in the Upper Austria region, with a population of just 1,100 residents. As the name suggests, Nussdorf is located on the shores of Attersee Lake, and is one of a number of similarly hospitable villages nearby. The lake is the biggest inland lake in the country, and part of the world-famous Salzkammergut region. The region is most famous as the setting for the Sound of Music, a film best-remembered for its rolling hillsides and breathtaking mountain ranges. The best way to get here is by flying to Salzburg and then arranging a rental car at the airport. There are regional trains through the Salzkammergut, but some of the most interesting places are only accessible by car. In any case, Nussdorf am Attersee hotels are only 30 minutes' drive from the centre of Salzburg. The village is a great base for accessing the nearby hiking paths, while cultural events often take place in the village itself.
