Introduction to Krumpendorf, Austria
Krumpendorf is a town on the shores of Worthersee, the largest lake in Austria's Carinthia region. Air passengers can get here by flying to the nearby Klagenfurt Airport, around 15 minutes away by car. Alternatively, there are regional and international trains which stop in both Klagenfurt and Krumpendorf itself. Of course, the favourite activity in the town is exploring the lake. There are regular ferries from the town's pier during the summer months which stop at all the major towns on the lake. However, these ferries don't tend to run often. More locally, bicycle is probably the best way to get around. Much of the lake's shore is covered by cycle paths, while bike hire is inexpensive. Some visitors like to swim in the lake, but those that do should ensure that they stay within 200 metres of the shore in order to avoid any speedboat collisions. Krumpendorf hotels can be expensive during peak times (July and August). However, those that visit in June or September can find real savings.
