Introduction to Bad Gastein - City Centre
Bad Gastein is a small spa town in the state of Salzburg, in Austria. It is located at Hohe Tauern National Park's northern rim and has a population of just under 6,000 inhabitants. There is a waterfall in the city centre which suspends water containing radon with medical properties over Bad Gastein. In the past, this area was full of huge luxury hotels as Europe's elite visited the resort for the healing powers of the spas; however, these days, many of the spas are no longer used. The modern city centre is near the train station and boasts modern medical institutions which come with spas and a convention centre. Just north of the centre, there is the late-Gothic Nikolauskirche church, which was made famous by its frescos on the main nave's ceiling, above the choir stalls.
