Q-bar on Oxford street is one of the city’s most popular nightclubs with some of Sydney’s best DJs performing into the early hours, seven days a week, making it a good place to be sure of a lively night. The Paddington Inn is a favourite in the city, with two large bars and some excellent and reasonably priced food. The Stonewall is at the heart of the gay scene with DJs and drag shows, it’s a fun and friendly place to visit.
King Cross is the traditional red-light district of the city and continues to offer slightly seedier nightlife to other areas of the city. ‘The Cross’, as it is locally known, refers to a stretch of road around Victoria street and Darlinghurst road, bustling with bars, clubs, sports bars, shows, cafes and massage parlours. It is also a popular area with backpackers, with a number of cheap hostels offering basic dormitory accommodation.
For live comedy, The Comedy Store at Fox Studios is open from Tuesday to Saturday, while The Hopetoun Hotel is a good place to see some of Sydney’s newest bands. Jazz lovers should head to Side-on Cafe on Parramatta road, where you will find a mix of local and international performers.
