January Festivals

Sydney Festival: every January, the Sydney Festival takes place over three weeks in January. There are a large number of events focusing on music, theatre and film with both Australian and International acts. The festival was established in 1977 and has become one of the country’s largest cultural events.
January/February Festivals

Chinese New Year: there is a rich Chinese cultural history in Australia, with Chinese people first arriving in Australia in the 1850s and the Chinese New Year is celebrated in Sydney’s Haymarket area in typically colourful style with a number of events and activities.
May/July Festivals

Biennale of Sydney: the Biennale of Sydney is an international festival of contemporary art, which takes place in Sydney’s major museums and galleries and has a reputation for innovation and originality. There are a range of talks, exhibitions and film screenings, with most events free of charge.
June Festivals

Sydney Film Festival: the Sydney film festival has a fifty year history and an excellent reputation. Running for two weeks every year, they showcase a good mix of Australian, International and alternative films.
October Festivals

Manly International Jazz Festival: the Manly Jazz Festival has been running since the 1970s and is the largest Jazz festival in Australia. Located by the stunning Manly beach, the festival attracts a good range of Australian and internationally renowned performers.
Good Food Month: Sydney’s Good Food Month has grown in popularity in recent years and is the highlight of the city’s culinary calendar with a month dedicated to food fairs, talks, workshops and many food related activities.
