Sydney Travel Guide
Blue Mountains: a trip to the Blue Mountains is probably the most popular day trip from Sydney and really shouldn’t be missed. The Blue Mountains are actually foothills with a height of 2228 metres, a national park with some stunning scenery and Australian wildlife. You have the chance to see kangaroos in their natural habitat and can get quite close.
The most famous sight here are the rock formations known as ‘The Three Sisters’ after an Aboriginal legend about three sisters from the Katoomba tribe who lived in the area. The Blue Mountains can be reached in less than one hour from Sydney and the scenic train ride (the steepest in the world) offers some stunning views.
Aside from fine wines to taste and some excellent restaurants, there are plenty of other activities possible in the Hunter Valley region, with Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park especially popular.
Port Stephens: is located around 125 miles north of Sydney, Port Stephens has a large range of water-based activities on offer. The deepwater harbour here is over two times bigger than Sydney Harbour and is relatively unspoilt, making it an excellent spot for a quiet break from busy city life.
